Why does God make this - or that—?
Why the Poison-ivy or the bat …
Why the scorpion, or fly,
Why the Man-of-War, the cat, the bore, or –
Mosquitoes bearing butcher knives
with grand proboscis drills?
Yet, even as we puzzle over these,
there is a riddle
that perplexes
more:
Why would God make ...
